The SoM-9307M is an ARM System-on-Module (SOM) type Single Board Computer (SBC) Based on the Cirrus ARM9 EP9307 processor. This ARM9 core processor has an Ethernet MAC built-in along with 3 serial ports. It utilizes external SDRAM and includes and MMU which allows it to run Linux and WindowsCE Operating Systems. A SoM (System on Module) is a small embedded module that contains the core of a microprocessor system.

Using the same small 200 pin SODIMM form-factor utilized by other EMAC SoM modules, the SoM-9307 is the ideal processor engine for your next design. All of the ARM processor core is included on this tiny board including: Flash, Memory, Serial Ports, Ethernet, I2S Audio, PWMs, Timer/Counters, A/D, digital I/O lines, Clock/Calendar, and more.

The SoM-9307M is designed to plug into a carrier board that contains all the connectors and any custom I/O required for the application. This approach allows the customer or EMAC to design a Custom Carrier Board, that meets the customer's I/O, dimensional, and connector requirements without having to worry about the processor, memory, and standard I/O functionality. With this System on Module approach, a semi-custom hardware platform can be developed in as little as a month.

In addition to the option of the developing a Carrier board, one can be purchased off-the-shelf from EMAC. EMAC provides off-the-shelf Carrier boards that feature A/D, D/A, MMC/SD card, keypad, LCD, Touchscreen, and Audio interfaces. The recommended off-the-shelf Carrier Board for the SoM-9307M is the SoM-200ES which allows the user to immediately start coding their application using the powerful Linux or WinCE Operating System and Tools.

The System On Module approach provides the flexibility of a fully customized product at a greatly reduced cost.

Linux Features

The Linux build for the SOM-9307 is based on the OpenEmbedded Linux build system. The current kernel is Linux 2.6.20 or higher patched to support the SOM-9307.

The basic root filesystem includes:

  • busybox 1.7.2 or higher

  • APM utilities for power management
  • Dropbear SSH server
  • Telnet/FTP support running under inetd
  • busybox-httpd HTTP server
  • JFFS2 filesystem with utilities
  • many other utilities
  • Optional Minimo (Mozilla/Firefox based) Browser (requires 64MB version)

SoM-9307 Linux Development

EMAC provides a Free Eclipse IDE that is pre-integrated to provide everything the user needs for developing SoM-9307 applications. All the compiling, converting and downloading inherent to SoM-9307 development can be done from one easy to use high level interface. The distribution provides an SDK for the EMAC SoM-200ES and SoM-9307M which contains source examples for the Interrupt Driven Keypad, LCD, Digital I/O ports, A/D, SPI, SD/MMC, and Modem.

The EMAC Eclipse IDE is a powerful, yet flexible Integrated Development Environment for the SoM-9307 and even features SVN version control support. For a screen shot of EMAC's Linux Eclipse based Development Environment click here.

The resident flash on the SOM can be programmed via it's serial bootloader firmware over the RS232 com port or via it's JTAG port. In addition to Linux, the SoM-9307 can be loaded with Windows CE 6.0 or Microsoft's new .NET Micro Framework.

EMAC Inc. is working in conjunction with SJJ micro in order to provide a .NET Micro Framework Port for the SoM-9307. .NET Micro Framework (NMF) is a New platform developed by Microsoft to simplify Embedded Application design. NMF is fully integrated into Microsoft Visual Studio allowing the user to develop with familiar tools even when debugging code that is running on the target device. The .Net Micro Framework provides a managed code environment that brings a fantastic degree of efficiency and reliability to the realm of embedded software development.
