BayRAD

The BayRAD is a new device which provides a user interface for a PC via keypad and LCD. Mounted on a bracket especially designed to fit a 5.25" drive bay, the BayRAD is ideally suited for use in network servers and other "headless" machines. Load data and other messages may be displayed to the BayRAD's LCD, while simple server maintenance tasks may be accomplished by navigating a menu with the BayRAD's front-mounted 4-button membrane keypad.

The BayRAD communicates through a standard RS-232 serial port. This makes control of the BayRAD simple, using an operating system's existing serial drivers. Full specifications for the BayRAD's protocol are provided, allowing the user to write his or her own BayRAD applications with ease.

The BayRAD works just as well in non-PC applications. Since the BayRAD's interface is ordinary RS-232, it may be connected to anything with a UART, including PLCs and 8-bit microcontrollers. Anything which needs a compact, integrated, and attractive user interface can benefit from a BayRAD.

FEATURES

  • Character LCD for 2 lines of 20 characters. The BayRAD supports several LCDs, including backlit, non-backlit, and Vacuum Florescent Displays. BayRAD supports cursor control, line wrap, and scrolling of display.
  • Bezel-mounted membrane keypad includes buttons for Menu, Select, +/Yes, and -/No. BayRAD debounces key-presses, and can automatically beep when a key is pressed.
  • Steel mounting bracket, specially designed for half-height 5.25" PC drive bays.
  • Standard floppy drive-type power connector.
  • Controller, LCD, bracket, keypad, and signal cable included -- nothing to build, nothing else to buy.

OPTIONS

  • RS-422/482 replacement of RS-232 interface. Allows serial cable lengths of up to 4000 feet.
  • I/O options, provides two high- Voltage relays and one opto-isolated input. Relays rated up to 130 Volts AC at 1 Amp. Opto-inputs can accept 5, 24, and 120 Volts DC or AC. This option can be used to toggle reset or power buttons of host or nearby machines.
  • Temperature sensor.
